Story

The project faced several main challenges, especially around following GDPR data privacy rules while tracking user behavior. We had to find ways to gather insights without storing personal data, which we achieved by using IP-based tracking and temporary data processing. As data grew from 15GB to over 1TB, scalability was also a challenge, so we developed a modular architecture with tools like Cloudflare workers and read-only data storage to keep things fast and efficient. Our analytics requirements were also complex, combining different types of metrics and supporting global regions and time zones. Balancing strong data privacy, high-performance analytics, and smooth scalability was key to overcoming these challenges.

Our work started with an intent data campaign using a pay-per-click (PPC) model to capture early-stage leads while ensuring GDPR compliance. By identifying companies via IP addresses - without storing personal data - we could gather crucial insights securely. We achieved this by using on-the-fly IP tracking and hex digest methods, which allow historical tracking without personal data storage.

Through our solution, clients gain real-time access to market data and potential client insights, helping them plan and run PPC, pay-per-lead (PPL), and intent-driven campaigns. Clients can view detailed metrics, including recent engagement levels and market share comparisons, to better define their target audience. Integrated third-party services provide contact options based on company size, domain, and geographic location, making it easier to reach "cooler" leads early in the sales funnel.

Advanced Analytics and Scalable Infrastructure

Our analytics capabilities play a major role in the platform’s impact. As data grew from 15GB in 2020 to over 1TB in 2024, we adapted by implementing a modular architecture that can handle large-scale data aggregation and transformation. This flexible backend supports both event-based and period-based metrics, capturing valuable behavioral data and generating actionable insights, notifications, and budget alerts for clients.

To ensure stability and performance, we used Cloudflare workers to reliably capture user clicks and interactions, introduced read-only data storage for faster query processing, and transitioned from Chef to Docker for easier updates. Our focus on data coverage also means our analytics forecasts are accurate, and data integrity is carefully maintained.

The platform has grown from 20 000 to 120 000 clients in 4 years, now leading in global rankings and experiencing significant traffic. Its comprehensive tools enable clients to define target audiences precisely and track campaign performance with in-depth analytics. As a result, clients achieve higher-quality outcomes compared to platforms like Google, with clear insights into conversion rates and ad effectiveness.

It also handles a significant scale of user engagement, with an impressive 200-250K clicks per month. Additionally, the platform displays 6 million clickable ad impressions each month. As of 2024, the catalog is growing rapidly, with an average monthly addition of 250 to 1,000 new software listings.
